M-EX is India's B2B Metal Exchange - a structured platform for buying and selling industrial metals. Sellers list surplus stock through a three-period auction process. Buyers browse active listings or post requirements through the RFQ system. Every completed transaction generates a formal Deal Confirmation issued to both parties.
M-EX is for businesses involved in industrial metal trading - stockists, distributors, mills, processors, engineering units, and procurement teams. It is a B2B platform and not intended for retail or personal use.
Yes. Creating an account on M-EX is free. Fees apply when you participate in listings or RFQs - view fees, entry fees, and a success fee when a deal closes.
M-EX covers steel and industrial metals across Indian and international standards including IS, BS, SAE, DIN, JIS, ASTM, GOST, and others. The grade intelligence database covers hundreds of grades with chemical composition, mechanical properties, and cross-standard equivalents.
Register and go to Post Stock. Fill in the material details - grade, form, size, quantity, location, and your reserve price. The M-EX team reviews and approves the listing before it goes live. Once approved, the three-period process begins.
The reserve price is the minimum rate you are willing to accept for your material. It is never shown to buyers. Buyers bid based on their own assessment of the material. If no bid meets your reserve, the listing closes without a deal.
Yes. When creating your listing, you can mark it as accepting partial quantities. A buyer can then purchase part of your stock and the listing remains open for the remaining quantity.
The listing closes without a deal. You are never forced to sell below your minimum. Your listing fee is not refunded in this case - it covers the cost of running the auction regardless of outcome.
The duration is set by you when creating the listing, within platform limits. Period 1 (entry window) runs for a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum of 7 days. Period 2 (offer window) runs between 1 and 72 hours. Period 3 (live auction) runs between 1 hour and 30 days.
Browse active listings from the main navigation. You can filter by grade, material form, and size. Listing summaries are visible to all visitors. Pay the view fee to access full details including exact dimensions, quantity, seller location, and material photos.
The view fee is a small amount charged to access full listing details. It filters out casual browsers and ensures that sellers are dealing with buyers who have a genuine interest in the material. The fee is credited against your entry fee if you proceed to participate.
Seller identity and contact details are released only after a deal is confirmed and the success fee is paid by both parties. During the entire auction process, the seller remains anonymous.
Yes. You can participate in as many listings as you choose, subject to having sufficient wallet balance to cover the applicable fees for each.
An RFQ (Request for Quotation) is a buyer requirement posted on the platform. You specify the grade, form, size, quantity, delivery location, ceiling price, and required by date. Verified sellers pay an entry fee to view and quote against it. The lowest qualifying quote in the reverse auction wins.
Go to Buyer RFQs and select Post a Requirement. Fill in your material specification, quantity, delivery location, ceiling price, and timeline. The M-EX team reviews and approves the RFQ before it goes live.
Yes. When posting an RFQ you can restrict visibility to sellers in specific states or districts. Sellers outside the defined area will not see or be able to quote on your RFQ.
In Period 3, registered sellers bid against each other by lowering their price. Each bid must be below the previous lowest bid by at least the minimum decrement. The lowest bid at or below your ceiling price at auction close wins. The buyer can also accept a quote during Period 2 before the auction starts.
M-EX charges a listing fee (for sellers posting stock), a view fee (for buyers accessing full listing details), an entry fee (to participate in an auction or RFQ), per-bid fees during live auctions, and a success fee when a deal closes. All fees are published on the pricing page. GST at 18% applies to all platform fees.
The success fee is charged to both buyer and seller at identity release - the point when the deal is confirmed and contact details are exchanged. The fee is calculated on the actual transacted value (strike price multiplied by quantity).
From your dashboard, go to Wallet and select Top Up. Transfer the amount to the M-EX bank account and submit your UTR reference. The M-EX team verifies and credits your wallet. Top-ups are advances and do not attract GST.
Every fee deduction generates a GST-compliant tax invoice. Invoices are consolidated daily and available from your dashboard under My Documents. A Deal Confirmation is issued to both parties when a transaction closes.
A Deal Confirmation is a formal document generated by M-EX when a transaction closes. It covers the agreed grade, size, quantity, rate, payment terms, buyer details, and seller details. Both parties receive a copy. It is the documented record of what was agreed between the two trading parties.
All your documents - tax invoices, deal confirmations, and wallet statements - are available from your dashboard under My Documents. You can download them at any time.
You can request account deactivation by contacting us. Your account will be disabled and you will no longer be able to log in. All transaction records, invoices, and deal confirmations are retained as required by Indian GST law.
